Config Files

  • repconfig.cfg: Auto-generated. Stores key bindings and preferences. Do not edit directly.
  • qzconfig.cfg: Auto-generated. Stores other settings. Do not edit directly.
  • autoexec.cfg: User-created. Executes on every launch. This is where player settings go.

Setup Workflow

  1. Join any game.
  2. Open the console: hold Ctrl+Alt, then press ~. Alternatively, set com_allowConsole 1 in a config, then use ~ directly.
  3. Run /writeconfig myconfig to dump current settings to a file.
  4. Create autoexec.cfg in the baseq3 folder.
  5. Add exec myconfig to autoexec.cfg.

Console tips:

  • Tab autocompletes commands.
  • PgUp / PgDn scrolls the console output.

Spawn Defaults

Players spawn with:

  • Machine Gun
  • 125 HP

All other weapons, health, and armor must be picked up from the map. There is no health regeneration.

Item Priority

The two most important items on any standard map:

  • Mega Health: +100 HP, cap 200. Respawns 35 seconds after pickup on most maps. Some maps use non-standard timers (Vertical Vengeance runs 2 minutes). Health above 100 decays at 1/sec.
  • Red Armor: +100 armor, cap 200. Respawns 25 seconds after pickup. Armor above 100 decays at 1/sec.

Controlling both consistently is the primary winning strategy in Duel. A player at 200/200 forces their opponent to fight at a significant disadvantage. Note the pickup time, add the respawn interval, and return before the opponent can.

Movement Priority

Strafe jumping moves approximately twice as fast as normal running. It is not an advanced technique. It is the baseline movement speed that competitive play is built around. Learn it before focusing on aim.
